Gmail For Outlook Mac 2011 With Mfa3/8/2019 ![]() Hi everyone-- I recently moved from a PC to a Mac. (running Moutain Lion). I added Office 2011 to my MacBook with no issues. However, I have been unable to successfully configure my Gmail account for POP3 access. I know the default under 'Add accounts' is to add it as an IMAP account. However, for a number of reasons I want to have it as a POP3 account in Outlook. I've checked a number of other online postings about this but can't seem to find anything that points to what I am doing wrong. Below are my settings: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 995 Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL: smtp.gmail.com Override default port: Yes Use SSL: Yes Port for SSL: 465 (also tried 587) Under 'More Options' Settings for smtp.gmail.com Authentication: Use Incoming Server Info Under Advanced Settings Digital Signing - None Selected Encryption: Certificate: None selected Encryption Algorithm: Tried both 3DES and AES 256 Encrypt outgoing messages is not checked. Thanks for your input Bimmer 7. Before seeing your response, I decided to go in one more time and try to change my outgoing port from 465 to 587. (no changes made to outgoing server and it still shows smtp.gmail.com) For whatever reason, it now seemed to work -- sort of! I expected it would pull in all my messages that are on the gmail server but it only pulled in messages that were not previously retrieved from my 'other' version of outlook that is still active on my PC. Since they were all on the gmail server I assumed they would pull in all the messages. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like having outlook on 2 different computuers won't allow you to pull in the same gmail messages from the server -- even if you have gmail settings set up to leave the messages on the server? Unless there is a configuration change needed on the gmail side that I need to make? I am wondering now if I am not using SSL on my outgoing server since I changed from 465 to 587. I still have this option checked (Use SSL) in the settings but the port now reads 587. To set up your Outlook client to work with Gmail: Enable IMAP in Gmail; Sign in to Gmail. Click the gear icon in the upper-right and select Gmail settings at the top of any Gmail page. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP; Select Enable IMAP. Configure your IMAP client and click Save Changes. Open Microsoft Office Outlook 2011. If you have just installed Outlook 2011 it will show in your Dock. Any insights into that? Thanks again for your help! Thanks Bimmer, I reviewed the articles, particularly the first one, and it seems like I am set up properly so that I can download the same messages into Outlook on both my PC and Mac. I checked my original settings on my PC and it shows that I have it set to leave messages on the server after they are downloaded and never delete. However, it still prevents me from pulling down the same messages on my Mac if they were already retrieved by Outlook on my PC. I went back to check my Google settings and wonder if I need to change my POP 3 option that is there: It currently shows 'POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 2/20/2010. Under this there are 3 other options: 1) Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded) 2) Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on 3) Disable POP I wonder if I need to check option 1 in order to get my historical mail to download to Outlook on my new MacBook? I am assuming this wouldn't impact the messages I've already downloaded in Outlook on my PC (in other words it shouldn't download these again to my PC).
